Habitat: Argentinean Andes.
Description: a genus of diverse plants, usually globular or cylindrical, some being cone-shaped, others having articles. The grayish-green stem bears small areoles, with or without spines, of different shapes. The diurnal flowers appear in the summer and are white tinged with pink. It is now within Opuntia.
Soil: fertile mix.
Location: full sun.
Temperature: ensure a minimum temperature of 6°C (43°F).
Water: average but controlled.
Cultivation tips: they are not easy due to the fact that they are highly adapted to mountain climate. Many of them can be grown outdoors all year round provided they are sheltered from winter wet. Feed once a year and propagate from seed or cutting.
