Description: a genus of very diverse cacti, usually large-sized and branched, showing an upright, columnar habit. Nocturnal flowers appear during the summer. This classification is still debated and species among the genus may be considered synonymous with Lemaireocereus, Machaerocereus, Marginatocereus, Marshallocereus, Rathbunia, etc. It usually includes the genera Hertrichocereus and Ritterocereus.

Cultivation tips: they are usually propagated from cuttings but can also be raised from seed.
Main species of Stenocereus: Stenocereus beneckei; Stenocereus dumortieri, cold temperatures are harmful and may cause scars and eventually the death of part of the stem, so keep the minimum around 8-10° (46-50°F); the same applies for Stenocereus hystrix and Stenocereus griseus.
