Habitat: sunny mountain ranges of Mexico.
Description: small spherical cacti with a large number of wavy ribs, up to one hundred, small, short-tubed flowers.
Soil: basic mix.
Location: grow in filtered light in the summer, dappled shade for spineless species; full sun for all during the winter.
Temperature: they resent air humidity and low temperatures. Keep the minimum at 8°C (46°F) or so.
Water: average but controlled.
Cultivation tips: reasonably easy. Plants cross-pollinate by themselves quite often. Fertilize once a month and raise from seed.
Main species of Stenocactus: Stenocactus coptogonus is quite distinctive among the genus along with multicostatus ; Stenocactus crispatus; Stenocactus phyllacanthus; Stenocactus hastatus; Stenocactus obvallatus; Stenocactus rectispinus; Stenocactus rectispinus.
